365 days of "I Do"

I haven’t blogged in yearsssss because I’ve been adulting but I’ve missed this space! It’s been a year since I married the most amazing man and if you know me, sharing about loving successfully is something I’m passionate about.

Here are some lessons I’ve gathered in the last 365 days….

1. Marriage has truly enhanced my understanding of how intimate our relationship with God is.

My relationship with God and Christ has deepened. All of a sudden, I get it! I really do! I understand how special the love between Christ and the Church is. I see it, feel it and experience it in the way my husband loves me, prioritises me, makes sacrifices, protects and nurtures me.

2. Love is a living thing that grows when nurtured through deliberate acts of tenderness, care, patience and perseverance.

3.  100% honesty and transparency are important. From finances, to struggles, to emotions. The catch is, it is just as important to manage your partner's honesty and transparency. Are you open with your partner? Are you vindictive with your partner's vulnerability?

4.  Be committed to being a part of the process. Share chores, rub minds together, show up for each other. Be genuinely interested. Everything is sweeter when you work as a team.

5. YOU are the author of your love story- not your “broken” background, or past failed relationships. Perspective is important.

6. If you’re not sure how to be the best lover, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (TPT version) gives some great advice. I said my vows from here and it serves as a reminder on the days I need a boost.

Bonus: Relax, laugh, enjoy yourself! You’re in it for a long time so don’t be too serious.
